Quick History of PSA Peugeot Citroën Group

Jean-Frederic & Jean II Peugeot created a company called Peugeot in 1810. Under Napoleon, the firm was in charge of supplying uniforms for the Grand Army (cotton processing).
Then, in 1840, the company evolved and moved to a different business area : the steel industry. Their key products at that time were handsaw blades, coffee mills or umbrella ribs, and had a major positive impact on the french customer base.

Armand and Eugene Peugeot, two distant cousins but involved in the company dissented from the steel business and created the "Société des Automobiles Peugeot" in 1846 and started producing bicyles. They soon realized the great potential of automotive vehicles and decided to build cars. In 1891, the first cars branded Peugeot were designed and marketed.

From that point, the firm quickly became a major actor in automotive construction to reach a very top-player role. In 1974, the takeover of Citroën from Michelin consolidates its status as the second automotive european leader and the multi-national corporation PSA as we know it was born. Peugeot also redeemed the brand Chrysler Europe in 1978.

Today, PSA it's 3 M of sold cars in 2013 in which 58 % are sold outside Europe. The turnover in 2013 is estimated at 54 billion euros, almost 200.000 employees harbored in 160 countries all over the world.
